Working with Blue-Pencil greatly contributes to environmental sustainability
Our program helps the well-being of our planet
100% of paper shredded is recycled
All material that is shredded on site at a customer’s facility is recycled. While this ensures that private information is disposed of safely, there are several far-reaching additional environmental benefits.
According to industry estimates, every ton (2000 lbs) of recycled paper:
- saves 17 new trees from being harvested for pulp and paper production
- uses 64% less energy,
- 380 gallons of oil
- three cubic yards of landfill space
- 4000 kilowatts of energy
- and 7000 gallons of water
This represents a 64% energy savings, a 58% water savings, and 60 pounds less of air pollution vs the same quantity of paper from virgin wood pulp.
All the paper that we collect for secure shredding is recycled into a wide assortment of paper products.
Environmentally friendly electronic recycling
Blue-Pencil’s proper disposition of electronic scrap is either manual dismantling or shredding operations. Once the material is downsized then it is put across magnets that remove the steel and aluminum. This material can then be sent directly to mills where it is further processed and reused. The remaining material contains boards and precious metals that need to go to a smelter or refiner to recover the precious metals.
Partnering with Blue-Pencil for your E-Waste disposal requirements not only ensures information security but environmentally ethical recycling.
Socially responsible product destruction
Products are destroyed via shredding or Waste-to-Energy Incineration, shredded waste is disposed through Waste-to-Energy Incineration, not landfill.
In many cases—such as the safe disposal of pharmaceutical products & medical instruments—incineration is the destruction method of choice because its high temperatures work to destroy pathogens and toxic contaminations.
This is also the most environmentally friendly option. The incineration process, entitled Waste-to-Energy (WtE), is a green energy source whereby the clean burning of solid waste creates electricity without creating any more pollution than the daily emission of 3 automobiles.
The benefits of WtE incineration far outweigh placing of destroyed products into a landfill where they can leach into the groundwater, despite treatment attempts. One ton of solid waste, for example yields an entire barrel of oil, or a ton of coal – representing a 100% carbon credit!
